Video Description

For a direct claim, you have to show evidence in your service treatment records that you suffered a condition. If you had treatment or diagnosis of a condition on active duty, or at least show that you had chronic symptoms of a condition on active duty, that was eventually diagnosed.

The second thing you need for direct is you have to show continuity of those symptoms. In other words, if you had symptoms on active duty of a condition, and you currently have a diagnosis of a chronic medical condition, you have to show that those symptoms continued until your current diagnosis. For a secondary claim, you have to show a medically supported link between your current disability and your service-connected disability—for example, acid reflux, secondary to your service-connected knee conditions.

For aggravation claims, you have to show evidence of aggravation. You have to show medical evidence that your condition has been aggravated by your service-connected condition.
